TOREY & ROBERT: LOVE WITH INTENTION

Story crafted by Sesali Bowen

Torey and Robert were like many people who found themselves less interested in the cycle of online dating. But when you’re intentional about what you want, you know it when you see it. This is their story.

A Clear Match

Torey: Dating in 2024 is hard. Creating a dating profile can be as simple, or complicated, as picking a fingernail polish color. I think we’ve all found ourselves downloading apps, deactivating accounts, matching & unmatching, and maybe even spinning the block because we were that bored… or lonely. When we matched, Robert and I were over dating sites, and now we owe one for bringing us together.

Neither of us were banking on meeting our soulmate, but we quickly noticed that our profiles were aligned. Both of us prioritized intentionality. We each desired genuine connection, freedom to be our authentic selves, and a sense of ease. We didn’t want anything forced.

It only took one day of bantering back and forth before we moved our communication to Instagram, where photos and videos were unlimited. That same week we had our first date, and that was the day I knew I had met my husband. I had been praying for someone to take care of my heart, and that I would be in a position to receive the man God wanted me to have.

Getting and Staying Focused

Robert: I took Torey out and wined her and dined her. She was so warm. All of the ways I naturally showed love were how she had been longing to receive love. It didn’t take me long to realize she was the one. After multiple dates and heart-to-hearts, I asked her to be my girlfriend.

T: When he asked me [to be his girlfriend] I wanted to cry because I’d just accepted a new position out of state. But I said yes and that began our unexpected long-distance relationship. FaceTime saved us. Planning our monthly trips kept us focused. Daily voice memos that were replayed 5,000 times helped the year go by. When you’re long-distance, you learn about your person faster because dating looks and feels different.

Both: We matched in October 2022, got officially engaged in November of 2023, and had a surprise wedding in March. We’re still floating, still dating, still loving, and still thanking the BLK app for being different from all of the others. There was no fuss, no fees, just love. There is someone out there for everyone and that person will love you the exact way you want to be loved.
