Some people think politics don’t belong in polite conversation (i.e. first dates) but we don’t mind one bit. Our experiences in our communities shape our political opinions, and elections impact those communities, whether we talk about them or not. That’s pretty damn important. Even if you’re not ready to ask the deep questions, we got you.
We surveyed 1,800 BLK users who responded to a survey about Kamala Harris’ presidential bid and here’s what they told us:
65% of Black American respondents are generally supportive and enthusiastic about Harris' presidential bid.
Two-thirds of all respondents feel like America is ready for its first female President.
A majority of them (64%) feel that America IS ready for its first BLACK female President. Of Gen Z respondents, however, only 54% of them feel the same, suggesting that they’re more cynical about America embracing a Black woman as its leader. Can we blame them?
52% of all users who responded, and 65% of Black women respondents, say they are more likely to vote now that Harris is the presumptive nominee. People are feeling motivated to hit the polls.
It makes sense then that 59% of BLK users feel that Kamala Harris' nomination is enough to secure the Black vote for the Democratic Party in 2024 and 54% of them feel her nomination will help the party’s chance of winning this year’s election.
So there you have it. Whenever you’re down to talk about this presidential election, you have some foundational facts to back it up. Check out the full survey here. Did any of the stats surprise you?
